The Election Commission (EC) has withdrawn proxy voting for overseas Bangladeshis. In the upcoming election, expatriates will cast their votes through IT-supported postal ballots. This will be implemented as part of a specific project. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah stated this to the media.

He made the statement on Thursday (July 10) after a commission meeting at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin. Other four election commissioners, the EC’s senior secretary, and senior officials were also present.

At the same time, he also informed that several proposals have been submitted in the amendment of the Representation of the People Order (RPO). These proposals include declarations by candidates regarding dual citizenship in affidavits, providing complete details of all lifetime legal cases, and full disclosure of assets belonging to the candidate and their family members.

He stated that the draft voter list will be published next week. The final list will be released by the end of July or the beginning of August.

Next week, the draft boundaries for parliamentary constituencies will be published. The number of seats in Dhaka will not decrease significantly. The changes will be very minimal, he added.

The preliminary verification work for the new political parties has been completed today. Field verification will be conducted, said the EC commissioner.

He also said that the EC will make the final decision regarding polling center arrangements. If better proposals come from anywhere, the commission will consider them, he added.
